Gear is a feature that was added to RoBeats! on September 17th, 2017.

Gear can be equipped onto the player's avatar to boost the score on matches played with Compete Mode. There are 6 slots gear can be equipped onto (hat, neck, face, back, shirt, and pants), but only 1 piece can be used on each slot.

Gear can be obtained from the Gear Shop, which randomly sells 2 gear pieces that can be purchased with 200, 2 gear pieces that can be purchased with 5, and a blueprint for 15 that can be used to craft a rare elemental gear piece.

Some gear pieces can also be obtained from the following places:

  • Some weekly artist events have gear pieces the player can purchase for event points.
  • Some gear can only be obtained by crafting them for various materials, including tokens and blueprints. Tokens can be earned from weekly missions, weekly leaderboards, and trading. Blueprints can be earned from weekly leaderboards and trading, with the rarity of the blueprint depending on where the player ranks.
  • The gear tutorial in the Mission tab prompts the player to craft a beginner boombox to complete the tutorial.
  • The Leaderboard Ticket Shop sells most gear pieces from old events and from the Gear Shop for varying amounts of Leaderboard Tickets depending on the tier. The Leaderboard Ticket Shop also sells token boxes for 35 tickets, and blueprints for 25 or 150 tickets depending on rarity.

Gear Statistics[]

There are two different categories of stats that gear can boost: base stats, and color stats.

Base Stats[]

Base stats affect the player's score on every song. They include:

  • Perfect Points - This upgrade improves the point value of a perfect note hit.
    • Defaults at 200, caps at 485 at 160 upgrades (450 at 80 upgrades when the bar is filled).
  • Combo Multiplier - This upgrade improves the value of the combo multiplier on note hits.
    • Defaults at 2.00, caps at 2.67 at 160 upgrades (2.60 at 80 upgrades when the bar is filled).
  • Fever Fill Rate - This upgrade improves the rate at which the fever bar fills when notes are hit.
    • Defaults at 1.00, caps at 0.23 (0.2307) at 160 upgrades (0.30 at 80 upgrades when the bar is filled).
  • Fever Multiplier - This upgrade modifies how much your score is multiplied by while in fever mode.
    • Defaults at 3.00, caps at 5.43 (5.425) at 160 upgrades (5.25 at 80 upgrades when the bar is filled).
  • Fever Time - This upgrade improves the duration of fever mode during a song.
    • Defaults at 1.00, caps at 2.78 (2.78333) at 160 upgrades (2.67 at 80 upgrades when the bar is filled).
  • Perfect Time - This upgrade changes the timing window to get a perfect note hit. Upgrading this stat often comes with the demerit of lowering your Perfect Points or Combo Multiplier.
    • Defaults at 60ms, caps at 234ms at 160 upgrades (220ms at 80 upgrades when the bar is filled).

All of these upgrades have diminishing returns (upgrades become less effective) as more upgrades are done to each statistic.

Legacy Base Stats[]

After the elemental update was published on August 22nd, 2020, several gear upgrades were removed in an effort to simplify gear upgrading. These include:

  • Notespeed - This upgrade increased or decreased the speed of the notes approaching the player. This was moved to the settings tab where the player can freely modify their speed without needing gear.
  • Combo Break Multiplier - This upgrade reduced how much combo was lost when the player missed.
  • Combo Threshold - This upgrade changed how fast different combo multipliers were triggered. By default, the player reaches the highest combo multiplier after a combo streak of 100 or higher.
  • Fever Drain Rate - This upgrade reduced how much fever was drained whenever the player missed.

Color Stats[]

Color stats boost the player's score on songs of the same elements. The elements include:

  • Chill
  • Vibe
  • Beat
  • Flow
  • Rush

Unlike base stats, upgrading elemental points show no diminishing returns when adding more upgrades.

Note: Tier 1 (yellow) and Tier 2 (blue) gear can be obtained from the Gear Shop or from the Leaderboard Ticket Shop. The prices from both shops are displayed on eligible items.

Upgrading Gear[]

Main article: Crafting

Gear pieces can be improved by upgrading them with notes or gems, which can be obtained from the Note Machine or the Marketplace. Upgrades improve base stats and color stats, and each piece can be upgraded up to 15 times (only the first 5 upgrades are guaranteed to succeed).

The odds of an upgrade succeeding can be improved by using Upgrade Boosts (up to 5 per upgrades), and Upgrade Protects can be used to prevent a failed upgrade from resetting back to the first 5 upgrades. If an upgrade fails and boosts are used, the likelihood of the next upgrade succeeding increases based on how many boosts were used.

If an upgrade was incorrectly added, it can be removed by using an Upgrade Cleaner, which can be obtained by combining 5 medium notes of the same color in the crafting menu.

Gear Slots[]

By default, players can only store 50 gear in their inventory before having to delete gear to store more. This can be expanded by up to 100 slots by purchasing additional gear slots. The upgrades go as follows:

  • 50 = Expands storage from 50 > 60 slots.
  • 100 = Expands storage from 60 > 70 slots.
  • 200 = Expands storage from 70 > 80 slots.
  • 400 = Expands storage from 80 > 90 slots.
  • 800 = Expands storage from 90 > 100 slots.

After buying the last upgrade, the Collect ALL the GEAR! title is rewarded.

Gear Loadouts[]

Players can use gear loadouts to quickly switch between multiple gear pieces quickly, To save pieces to a loadout, select the loadout you wish to edit, and equip gear pieces to save onto the loadout. These loadouts are also used in matches when the Auto-Equip Best Loadout setting is enabled.

By default, players can have 5 loadouts saved, and up to 10 more can be purchased with stars. The upgrades go as follows:

  • 50 = Expands loadout slots from 5 > 6 loadouts.
  • 100 = Expands loadout slots from 6 > 7 loadouts.
  • 150 = Expands loadout slots from 7 > 8 loadouts.
  • 200 = Expands loadout slots from 8 > 9 loadouts.
  • 250 = Expands loadout slots from 9 > 10 loadouts.
  • 300 = Expands loadout slots from 10 > 11 loadouts.
  • 350 = Expands loadout slots from 11 > 12 loadouts.
  • 400 = Expands loadout slots from 12 > 13 loadouts.
  • 450 = Expands loadout slots from 13 > 14 loadouts.
  • 500 = Expands loadout slots from 14 > 15 loadouts.

Titles are rewarded after certain upgrades. If every gear slot upgrade is purchased as well, an additional title is rewarded.

Tips[]

For beginners[]

  • When starting out, shop gears are going to the starting point for your sets. It is recommended to purchase gears based off featured artists, as they tend to give more gear power compared to older gears.
  • Goonie's Disco Set and Koneko's Cat Set aren't ideal for getting higher scores as they boost Perfect Time. It will increase the timing window for a perfect note, but at the cost of lowering your Perfect Points or Combo Multiplier.
  • Gears from seasonal events or Roblox events tend to give the highest gear power and is part of most good sets (e.g., No-Scope Loadout, Autumnal Adept's Bloom, The Games: Hidden Shine, etc.). However, if you didn't obtain them during the events, you will have to spend 50 Leaderboard Tickets instead.
  • When aiming for the Weekly Leaderboards, it is recommended to focus on a single element color and make a set from there. That way, you'll get the most score on that element only.
  • Rare Elemental gears are sometimes not worth it as their stats aren't always worth the cost. You'll eventually replace it with Legendary Gear during the late-game.
  • There's a public RoBeats Gear Meta document where you can learn more about different sets used by top players.

For experienced players[]

  • Gears crafted from tokens gives the best result on scores, as they have the highest base stats on a gear (excluding some seasonal event gears).
    • Legendary Marshall sets focuses on Fever-related stats, which includes Fever Time, Fever Fill Rate and Fever Multiplier. Best pick for great Rush or Chill element gears.
    • Legendary Musketeer sets focuses on Combo Multiplier, with small amounts of upgrades on the side. Usually disregarded as combo isn't useful in most sets.
    • Legendary Rebel sets focuses on Perfect-related stats, which includes Perfect Points and Perfect Time. Not the best pick since Perfect upgrades are not useful in most scenarios, but can be used for Beat element sets.
  • Elemental gears are going to be your primary gear sets for your journey, as they give heavy amounts of Element points of the chosen sets, which are important for leaderboards.
    • Chill Samurai sets focuses on Perfect Points, with heavy amounts of Chill Points and Flow Points. Regarded as the weakest set of the elemental gears. Legendary Marshall sets are usually better for Chill-focused sets.
    • Vibe Ringleader sets focuses on Combo Multiplier, with heavy amounts of Vibe Points and Beat Points. Fever Fill Rate upgrades are almost always used in this as it lacks important fever upgrades and gives Vibe Points. Usually paired with The Games: Hidden Shine or The Games: Cape to make room for Vibe Points upgrades.
      • In some cases, Legendary Vibe Ringleader's Necktie has the most amount of Combo Multiplier upgrades in a gear. Which can be mixed with Chill & Beat sets for a boosted stat on Combo Multiplier upgrades, making room for the element points upgrades.
    • Beat Cyborg sets focuses on Fever Time and Fever Fill Rate, with heavy amounts of Beat Points and Flow Points. Can be mixed with Vibe Ringleader sets to balance out fever upgrades with Combo Multiplier stats.
    • Flow Commander sets focuses on Fever Multiplier, with heavy amounts of Flow Points and Chill Points. Usually paired with No-Scope Loadout to make room for Flow Points upgrades.
    • Rush Chieftain sets focuses on Perfect Points and Combo Multiplier, with heavy amounts of Rush Points and Vibe Points. Regarded as the best set of the elemental gears, can be mixed with Marshall for better fever flexibility. Usually paired with Autumnal Adept's Bloom to make room for Rush Points upgrade.
  • To get the most points with your gears, make sure the fever fits the song as they can give the most points if they match the optimal fever stats.
    • Make sure you get a good accuracy and low miss count so that Fever wouldn't be wasted.
    • You'll know when the fever fits the song if the last fever ends right after the last note of the song. If it ended before all the notes on the last part hasn't finished yet or having extra fever left after the song ends, then it would be considered wasted fever.
